Present Perfect Continuous Tense

Present Perfect Continuous Tense:

Present Perfect Continuous Tense is used for an action that began at some time in the past and is still continuing.

Examples:

  • Anmol has been working for four hours.
  • It has been raining since morning.
  • The first sentence implies that Anmol started working four hours ago and is still working. Similarly, in the second sentence, it started raining in the morning and is still continuing now. In other words, both the actions in the two examples started in the past and are continuing in the present. Therefore  present perfect continuous has been used.

    Present Perfect Continuous Tense : - The present perfect continuous is used -

    (A) To denote an action that began at some time in the past and is still continuing. For example,

  • I have been swimming for two hours.
  • Kate has been working since six in the morning.
  • (B) To denote repeated actions. For example,

  • I have been getting this journal every week for a year.
  • Note : - There is sometimes very little difference between the meaning of the present perfect and the meaning od the present perfect continuous tense.

  • I have been working at this site for three years.
  • I have worked here for three years.
